Brian Head:
Many families choose Brian Head because of their friendly, safe and relaxing atmosphere. Local activities include mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, ATV trails and rentals, scenic chair lift rides, rock climbing, disc golf, snowmobile trails and rentals, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, nearby National Parks and of course skiing, snowboarding and tubing. Being a resort town, Brian Head has several condominium reservation centers that offer everything from hotel style rooms, four bedroom family units to fully stocked cabins. Brian Head's Town Park facility includes a playground, restrooms, volleyball court and basketball courts. Brian Head Resort offers planning services for groups of 20 or more. Cedar City:
Cedar City is a full service community with a myriad of lodging, dining and activity choices. Groups can enjoy plays and seminars at the Utah Shakespearean Festival, the Utah Neil Simon Festival and productions put on by the Southern Utah University Theater and Dance Department. There's also the Iron Mission State Park Museum, DUP Museum, Cedar Canyon Walking Trail and the Park Discovery. Family reunion groups also love Cedar City for its convenient location to Zion, Bryce Canyon and Cedar Breaks National Monument. The Southern Utah University outdoor recreation department can help groups plan outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking, cross country skiing for all ability levels plus they offer workshops that cover outdoor skills and interests. Call Ann Smith at 435-865-8704 for details. Cedar City has several baseball, softball and soccer fields, plus five parks with playgrounds, and two parks with covered areas for picnics and programs. Parowan:
As the first settlement of southern Utah (settled January, 13, 1851), Parowan is affectionately called the "Mother Town of Southern Utah. Parowan is a popular family reunion location for descendants of the original settlers and those interested in history. Many of the original homes and business buildings still line the downtown area of the community, along with a tree-lined Main Street that take visitors on a nostalgic trip back through time. Pioneer museums, a historic cemetery and numerous historic sites are open for family reunion groups. Parowan has three parks, an urban fishery, baseball and soccer fields and the Iron County Fairgrounds indoor exhibition area with a full service kitchen and a covered pavilion with a concession stand. Five-Mile Picnic Area is located, as the locals say, "five miles up Parowan Canyon", at the gateway to Vermillion Castles and Yankee Meadow Reservoir. It is neatly tucked away along the creek, surrounded by towering red rocks of Vermillion Castle dotted with juniper trees. Five -Mile is open May through October for public and community use. No overnight camping is allowed and there is no potable water available. Use of the 17 picnic areas is on a first come-first served basis. However, there is one picnic site that is tailored for large groups, which can be scheduled for use through Parowan City at (435)477-3331.
