This exhibit brings together a small portion of the work of immigrant potters who served their communities and their faith by processes, projects and social lives of the pots and potters of early Utah.

From its beginnings, The Curch of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints proclaimed that their members should gather together to form strong and stable communities of faith. By 1847, the Utah Territory became the stage for this assembly of believers.

At the beginning of the semester students developed a personal theme that was to provide direction for their work. The theme approach allowed student artists to go into their work more deeply, with added involvement and great concentration. In addition, the artists were able to work with greater independence. For some the theme guided the work, for other the theme evolved during the semester and for a few artists the theme became a dead end and had to be discarded and a new theme created.

Campfire Concerts in the Canyon featuring Steve Swift and John Sotter at 8pm at the Southwest Wildlife Foundation Park campfire pit (1 1/2 miles east of Cedar City along Hwy 14). For more information call 435-867-9800.

The campfire concert is extremely casual and impromptu and participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, lanterns and flashlights, hotdogs, marshmallows and any other food for roasting. Also don't forget the bug spray. Between scheduled acts, attendees will also be able to tell stories or jokes.
